At a recent press conference , Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti announced that the LAPD will introducing the BMW i3 and the Tesla Model S P85D to their police car fleet, truly putting the EV on the Los Angeles Map. 

As an investment towards the future of a greener LA, and a way to save the tax payers money, these new EV Police car's are making the city "home to the largest city-owned fleet of pure battery electric vehicles anywhere in the country" Garcetti said at a press conference. 

The LA Police department are already using 67 EV police vehicles, 23 electric scooters and 3 electric motorbikes in their day to day police work.

The city has commissioned the addition of the 288 new Electric vehicles for the LAPD, DWP, LAFD and other city utilities, seeing LA leading the way as a sustainable city. These new green additions to the fleet will comprise of 160 EV's and a 128 hybrid vehicles. 

USA Today spoke with BMW plug-in car manager Christine Fleischer who was delighted with the recent decision to upgrades: "the i3 is a brilliant fit with the technology - driven research philosophy of the LAPD" says Fleischer who added that it shows how versatile and sustainable the BMW EV is. 

We think the Tesla S P85D with it's acceleration of 0-60 in 3.1 seconds and hefty range of 270 miles per charge, favourable to the EPA and a perfect fit for the force.
