Car shows upon us Mk2 Golf tour time

Well the car shows are truly upon us, which ones have you already been to? and which are planning on heading too, we plan to hit a few as our Mk2 Golf is being prepped for show season 2014.

Already we have fitted a steering rack, recon gearbox with welded seams, linkgage kit bushes and rods. As you can imagine it's an interesting job looking for Mk2 Golf parts.

Tesla S is selling like hot cakes, slight recall though

It's official the Tesla S is red hot, smoking indeed on sales and it's stock has increased by 10%, a phenominal amount. The Green super car or sports car or what ever you want to call is loved, the Californian company have made an electric car that is an object of desire, and doesn't guzzle gas (petrol to us).

Jaguar 4x4 showcase Frankfurt Motor Show 2013

It's on the cards at last a 4x4 from Jag, the new Sport Utility Vehicle is to be showcased on September 22nd at the Frankfurt Motor Show, according to Autocar, which makes it very unlikley you'll see at any other 2013 car shows, but you never know.

The new Jaguar 4x4 concept

The British car maker has wanted to enter the 4x4 market for sometime, however hasn't particularly faired well up until now, however Indian owners Tata have the wheels in motion. Tata are using Land Rover their sister company to borrow all their 4x4 knowhow to make the perfect Jaguar SUV.

We may see the new vehicle as soon as 2016, as there are no pictures, we can only summise based on the Range Rover / Evoque offerings. It is expected the 4x4 will be around £30,000, allowing it to compete with BMW X3 and Audi Q5. This latest innovation is likely to be powered by the latest Jaguar land Rover range of 4 cylinder engines, and higher powered V6 version seen in XF and XJ cars.

AMG team up with Aston Martin

Aston Martin and AMG deal

AMG the division of Mercedes Benz are forming a technical partnership, Aston Martin announced today. This deal will give Aston Martin the power to access the latest AMG Reasearch and Development and aid Aston in designing bespoke electronic architectures and V8 powertrains as well as support the next generation of Aston Martin cars when they launch.

Both firms signed a letter of intent earlier today, with a definitive agreement following before the new year.

Part of the deal constitutes that Daimler AG will own up to 5% of non-voting shares in Aston Martin joining the other shareholders, a supply agreement was also reached between Daimler, AMG & Aston Martin, in addition the British firm will continue to manufacture all of its sports cars at its Gaydon facility.

Development boss of Aston Martin Ian Minards said today: “Aston Martin sources cutting-edge technology from key suppliers around the globe and the opportunity to include content from Mercedes-AMG GmbH in our next-generation sports cars is, clearly, good news".

“Working with Mercedes-AMG in this way while, of course, remaining independent and preserving the unique character and style of Aston Martin that has been the mainstay of the company throughout its 100-year history, points to a very bright future for the company as it starts its second century in business.”

AMG boss, Ola Källenius said: “We are proud to work with Aston Martin and provide them with powertrain and electric/electronic components for their forthcoming sports cars. This is proof of AMG’s technological and performance expertise and a real win-win situation for both sides.”

Why you should be investing in cars

Collecting cars for investment and profit is something which many people have not considered. Now the trend is too buy and break for bits.

Fordlandia - The vision of Henry Ford

It seems only apt that we write about Fordlandia, the day after, what would have been Henry's 150th birthday, when you think of Ford you think of inspiration, the first auto production line and the Model T, the only car that you can have in any colour as long as its black.

However hardly anyone including myself has ever heard of the legacy of Henry Ford known as Fordlandia - A 6000 sq mile town fabricated in the Amazon rainforest in 1928, The Jungle Rubber Utopia of Henry Ford's Fordlandia, an Amazon rainforest town.

The initial idea for the town was to provide the car manufacturer with rubber for car tyres, without relying on Malayan Rubber, better known as British rubber. The vision was to live and prosper in Fordlandia, through simple morals, and no alcohol. The project steamed ahead with homes being built relatively fast, next running water, electricity even swimming pools, Ford believed leisure was a major part of the economy.

It was an interesting idea, and may have worked if the production of rubber elsewhere hadn't taken off, it would have also been more successful if the people running the show knew about cultivating rubber plants, soil quality and how to fend off predators of the plant, even moving the town wasn't enough. The final blow was with the invention of synthetic rubber making the whole town, surplus to requirement, the land was sold back, Fordlandia just wasn't to be. Today the location is peppered with disused building, of what used to be, Fordlandia: Henry Ford's Forgotten Jungle City.

Restoring Bertie Part 1

Restoring Bertie Part 1

Bertie Beetle has now been with us for around two months. Due to other projects not a large amount of work has been done on the bug. Now that other projects are coming to an end, work has resumed on bertie today.

When Bertie arrived we resolved some electrical problems so that the car would run. However there are still many outstanding problems with the electrics. When Bertie arrived there was a stereo and speakers fitted this meant that there was a large amount of wiring. To make the repairs on the electrics easier they were removed. We are now also aware that he will need a new alternator as the battery is not charging. Most of the wiring will be replaced this will be to avoid future problems.

As well as working on the electrics we have also ordered some new parts such as the alternator, paint and filler. We are also bidding on some chrome bumpers which include mounting brackets.

We hope to make a large amount of progress in the next few months.
