Golf Mk1 Project

The Car

This car bought for a paltry amount of 255 is the starting piece for our little well... maybe big Volkswagen Project. The car was purchased from Oxford, three weeks ago, then transported to Buxton via the AA. The car then sat with its flat tyre till we arranged a car and a trailer courtesy of David Balderstone & Michael Sparks. The classic veedub was delivered yesterday night by Passat and double axled lightweight car trailer.

The history of the car

The appearance of the Mark 1 suggests someone wasn't to happy with the original Wine Red colour and decided a metallic green would be more fitting. They didn't see the point of spraying the complete shell just the bits that could be seen from the outside, therefore the engine bay is Red all the interior and the door and boot insides. In additon a VW Clipper kit was added, an RS front bumper and what looked like a Audi Quattro modified bonnet with scoops. The Golf was definetly planned to be a track car as it car Cobra Streetwise buckets, racings pedals, no back seats and racing harnesses.

We bought the car explaining our plans, to which we got a few sniggers, it wasn't clocked till after handing over the cash, that all we needed was a solid shell. Then the question why would you want to fit Porsche parts to a Mk1 Golf was raised? Obviously every Volkswagen realises the correlation between Ferdinand Porsche and Veedub.

Green dream

How does it run?

Hmm well the car ran, kind of, except the pan filter and Carb weren't secured therefore it smelt strongly of fuel also it sounded like the exhaust was blowing a little. The brakes don't really work, the gearbox seems tight, and generally the engine and box and other ancillaries are in OK condition.
